A burn is tissue damage that occurs due to chemicals Such as sunlight, Electricity, chemical, nuclear radiation, depending on location severity extent and external cause in an additional two laterality encounters. Code applied to thermal burns except for sunburn. Corrosions are burned due to chemicals.


A first degree burns the outer layer of the skin.

A Second-degree burn indicates damage extends beyond the epidermis partially into the layer beneath the dermis.

A third-degree burn is full-thickness tissue loss damage completely e both the layers of the skin.    


 ICD 10 coding using the rule of nine.


 At least three code  are needed to properly report Burn diagnosis 

-First listed code for site and severity will be from category T20- T25.

-Second list code will be from E series extent. 

Bums and corrosion are classified to the extent, the percentage of the total body surface area ( TBSA).

- Third list code will be from E series external cause code.

External cause to identify source place and intent of the burn and agent to edit identify the chemical substance of the corrosion.
